May unfolded as a month of introspection, growth, and finding balance. It wasn't about grand achievements but about embracing the journey, acknowledging the ebbs and flows, and finding harmony in the midst of life's rhythms.
1. Finding Strength in Study and Self-Discipline
This month, I continued my preparation for the ServSafe exam, aiming to take it on June 1st, so my next blog I will have good news to share. The process has been a lesson in self-discipline and perseverance. Each study session reinforced my commitment to my goals and reminded me that progress is built through consistent effort. The entire purpose of me taking my exam is to teach in a commercial kitchen. So, taking this exam will be the first step to reaching my goal.
2. Navigating Grief and Celebrating Love
May brought moments of reflection on love and loss. This month was a time for celebration but it also came with triggering reminders of loss. I was able to celebrate being a mom while also grieving the loss of my mother. It also reminded me of the struggle of becoming a mom while celebrating my daughter’s 7th birthday.
I shared on Instagram:
"Grief can come and go in waves. The one thing I've learned is it never leaves. You just find a way to love with it."
These moments taught me that it's okay to hold space for both joy and sorrow, allowing them to coexist and shape our experiences.
"The only real stumbling block is fear of failure. In cooking you've got to have a what-the-hell attitude."
– Julia Childs
3. Embracing Physical Wellness and Community
Participating in my daughter’s field day was a highlight of the month. It wasn't just about physical activity but about community, support, and spending time with classmates. Engaging in such events reinforced the importance of holistic wellness—nurturing both body and spirit.
4. Rediscovering Joy in Baking
Baking continues to be a source of solace and creativity. I experimented with new recipes, including larger chocolate cookies, and shared them with friends. These acts reminded me of the joy found in creating and sharing, reinforcing my love for baking beyond business pursuits. I know it’s time to get back in the kitchen but I am doing it my way and not the demand of request.
I honestly believe I got lost in the work of running a business and began to miss the art and science of baking. This is one of the reasons I am pursuing my certification.
5. Cultivating Harmony in Daily Life
Throughout May, I focused on cultivating harmony in my daily routines. Whether it was through structured study times, intentional movement, or mindful baking, I aimed to create a balance that nurtured my well-being. As I shared:
"Learning this thing called harmony can be challenging but once I find my groove it's priceless."
Closing Thoughts
May was a tapestry of experiences—studying, grieving, celebrating, moving, and creating. Each thread contributed to a richer understanding of myself and my journey. As I step into June, I carry forward the lessons of balance, resilience, and the beauty of embracing life's rhythms.
What did May teach you? I'd love to hear your reflections in the comments below.
